This article will walk you through the process of power cycling an iPad that doesn't have a physical home button that is in Guided Access mode.
It will be separated into the two sections below.
If you Don't Have a Passcode Enabled on the iPad
- Have an app open on your iPad and have Guided Access mode enabled.
- Quickly press and release the "Volume Up" button on the iPad. You will quickly see the volume slider appear.
- Quickly press and release the "Volume Down" button on the iPad. You will quickly see the volume slider appear.
- Quickly press and hold the "Power" button until you see the screen go black.
- Wait for the iPad to power on.
- Once the iPad has finished powering on, you will see that you are still in Guided Access mode and the app that you had running is once again running.
If you do Have a Passcode Enabled on the iPad
- Have an app open on your iPad and have Guided Access mode enabled.
- Quickly press and release the "Volume Up" button on the iPad. You will quickly see the volume slider appear.
- Quickly press and release the "Volume Down" button on the iPad. You will quickly see the volume slider appear.
- Continue to hold the "Power" button until you see the screen go black.
- Wait for the iPad to power on.
- You must enter your passcode for the iPad.
- You will see that you are at the Home screen on the iPad and that it is no longer in Guided Access mode.
- Swipe up from the bottom center of the screen and you will see that the app that you had running on the iPad when it was in Guided Access mode is still running as shown below.
- Tap the app to bring it to the foreground.
- Triple click the "Power" button to enable Guided Access mode.
