This article will walk you through the different methods of finding out the status of a warranty for an iPad. Please note that iPOS encourages all clients to purchase Apple Care on iPads as they see fit. This must be done within (1) year of the original purchase date (when iPOS purchased the iPad, not when it was sold to the end-user). Click here to learn more about Apple Care.
STEP 1: Determine the Serial Number
This can be accomplished in one of two ways:
Option 1 - Check the Back of the iPad
Option 2 - Use the Settings App on the iPad
Option 1: Check the Back of the iPad
- The serial number is usually printed on the back of the device, option near the bottom below the Apple logo as shown below.
- Please note that the text is very small and can be hard to read so you might want to take a picture and zoom in to make it easier to read.
- The serial number of the iPad is a 12 character alphanumeric code.
Option 2: Use the Settings App on the iPad
1. From the Home screen, open the Settings app on the iPad.
2. In the left hand window pane, tap "General".
3. In the main window pane, tap "About".
4. In the main window pane, look at the field named "Serial Number".
Step 2: Check the Warranty
This can be accomplished in one of two ways:
Option 1: Via the Apple Check Coverage Website
Option 1: Via the Apple Check Coverage Website
1. Go to the Apple Check Coverage Website by clicking the link here.
2. Enter the serial number in the field named "Enter a device serial number".
3. If you are prompted, enter the code shown in the image on the screen in the field named "Type the characters above in the field below".
4. Click "Submit".
5. You will then see the results of the warranty check showing you the model of the iPad, the purchase date of the iPad (when it was originally purchased from the vendor/supplier, the serial number of the iPad, and if the warranty is still active or if it has expired.
Option 2: Via the iPad
1. From the Home screen, open the Settings app on the iPad.
2. In the left hand window pane, tap "General".
3. In the main window pane, you will see either "AppleCare & Warranty" or "Coverage Expired" to let you know if the iPad's warranty is active or expired. In the example below, this iPad's warranty has expired.
