Guided Access limits device access to a single application that is running on an iPad. While Guided Access in enabled, the home button & power buttons will be disabled, preventing the user from leaving a single application.
This article is separated into three sections listed below.
Guided Access Setup
- On the Home screen on the iPad, tap "Settings".
- In the left hand window pane, tap "Accessibility".
- In the main window pane, scroll down to the section named "General" and then tap "Guided Access".
- In the main window pane, tap the option named "Guided Access" to enable it.
- Once enabled, the options now available are shown below.
- In the main window pane, tap "Passcode Settings".
- In the main window pane, tap "Set Guided Access Passcode".
- You will now be prompted to set the password for Guided Access.
- Enter a passcode that is 6 digits in length.
- Re-enter the passcode that is 6 digits in length.
- Please document the passcode that you set for Guided Access and keep it in a safe place for reference.
- Guided Access is now enabled and configured on your iPad.
Starting Guided Access
- Open the app on your iPad that you want to use with Guided Access.
- With the app open on your iPad, triple click the Home button (if you have one) or the Power button (if you do not have a Home button).
- In the upper right hand corner, tap "Start" to start Guided Access.
- You will be notified that Guided Access has started.
Exiting Guided Access
- Either triple click the Home button (if you have one) or the Power button (if you do not have a Home button).
- Enter your 6 digit passcode for Guided Access.
- In the upper left hand corner, tap "End" to exit Guided Access.
- You will be notified that Guided Access has ended.
